Put the chat on your website
One line pasted into your website and whoever visits it can write to you without leaving the page. What they say lands in your inbox as one more ticket, and you reply from the same screen as always.
Before you start
- Being able to edit your site's HTML, or whoever does it for you.
- Your administrator account in CALADESK.
1. Create the channel
In your platform, go to Settings → Inbound channels. Under "Create a channel", pick Live chat and press Create channel.
2. Say which websites it will work on
Under Allowed websites, type your site's address —one per line— and save. With the https:// in front and no trailing slash.
If your site answers both with and without www, add both. To a browser yourcompany.com and www.yourcompany.com are different sites, and the chat will only appear on the one you wrote.
This list is not a formality: it is the only thing stopping someone from putting your chat on another website and filling your inbox. While it is empty the chat accepts nothing — on purpose.
3. Paste the line into your website
As soon as you save the websites, a box appears with the exact text to paste. It goes right before </body>, on the pages where you want the chat to show.
If your site is built with WordPress, Wix, Squarespace or similar, they all have a place for "custom code" or "footer scripts". That is where it goes.
Try it yourself before anyone else
Open your website and look for the round button at the bottom right. Write yourself something. A new ticket should appear in your inbox right away; reply to it, and the reply reaches the chat within seconds.
If you do not see the button, it is almost always the list of websites: check that the address you entered is exactly the one in the browser bar, with or without www as appropriate.
If something does not work
| What you see | What happens |
|---|---|
| The chat button does not appear | Your site's address is not on the list, or it is there with www and your site answers without it (or the other way round). |
| The button shows but nothing gets sent | Same thing: the chat always draws itself, but it only talks to allowed websites. |
| The box with the code is not there | It appears as soon as you save at least one allowed website. |
| The visitor is told the conversation was closed | Someone closed that ticket. They are offered to start another conversation, which opens a new case. |
Three things worth knowing
- We ask for nothing before letting them write. Asking for details before helping is the fastest way to lose them. After their first message we do offer — with no strings attached — to leave a name, email and country.
- Reloading the page does not lose the thread. The chat remembers their conversation in the browser itself.
- The visitor can send you a file. The chat's paperclip attaches a screenshot, the same way they can by email.

The chat is one of the channels. Emails, Telegram and WhatsApp come in too, and it all ends up in the same inbox.
